Overview

The candidate for this position will provide oversight to the MDA shipyard competent persons on second shift.

Daily work will involve acting as the the second shift point of contact between operations and the shipyard competent persons, assigning work accordingly throughout the shift, and resolving problems and issues with atmosphere analysis in the shipyard. The second shift Atmosphere Representative role will report to the Engineering Supervisor for D. 506 who oversees atmosphere services. They will aid the supervisor to ensure support for operations on second shift and provide turn overs to third shift employees for work assignments.

The second shift Atmosphere Representative is expected to work independently and have an understanding of shipyard operations as well as the role of competent persons. The Atmosphere Representative is responsible for training and maintenance of qualifications for new hires assigned to 2nd shift. The candidate shall possess skills to train new hire employees and oversee their work daily.

The candidate must have strong communication skills, be able to set priorities and assign work to shipyard competent persons to support operations on the back shifts. They will also carry out direction from the engineering supervisor and Marine Chemist to ensure that both safety and production are maintained. The individual must possess a thorough working knowledge of shipyard procedures along with OSHA and NFPA requirements.

Candidate must be able to promote a positive team environment, as well as, interact with all levels of management and the customer. They must have strong and effective skills in the areas of communication, writing, multi-tasking, time management, and personnel interaction.

A strong desire to develop employees is required in order to be successful in this position. Candidate must be a highly motivated person in order to work in a fast paced, high stress environment where managing multiple priorities is essential

Qualifications

Required:

    High school diploma or GED
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA's confined space regulations and knowledge of fire safety
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in shipyard production/manufacturing
  • Internal applicants must be from an organization outside the Operations Organizations (Casciano/Gabriel)

Preferred:

  • A BS degree in science, management, safety or equivalent
