Overview:

Selective Insurance Commercial Lines IT Delivery is seeking a Scrum Master who coordinates and facilitates agile events, such as Planning, Reviews, and Retrospectives, and acts as first level escalation for impediments impacting the Development Team members. The Agile Practitioner is responsible for empowering delivery teams to effectively deliver business results using agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as an agile leader and coach for two agile teams of low to moderate complexity, each generally ranging in size from 5 - 12 individuals.
  • Be a key member of an Agile team on an Agile Release Train.
  • Facilitates and coaches their teams on agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Review, and Retrospectives. Coaching of other agile team members and their Product Owners in Lean/Agile values, practices, tools, and methodologies.
  • Participate in and facilitate team level planning, execution, and continuous improvement.
  • Accountable for delivery for small to moderately sized epics across the entire application lifecycle, aligned with an agile methodology. This includes project initiation, facilitating project scope management, addressing dependencies across teams, providing status, and managing risks/issues.
  • Facilitate the creation and maintenance of Product Vision and Roadmaps to enable teams to align execution to business value. Work with project leadership to report status, escalate and resolve issues, and communicate changes in scope or execution.
  • Work with the Product Owner and Development Teams to facilitate the refinement, estimation, planning, and execution of features and stories in alignment with agile best practices.
  • Drives continuous improvement on agile teams using techniques such as Inspect & Adapt, Retrospectives, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Facilitate tracking and reporting of agile metrics at the team level such as lead time, velocity, defect leakage, etc. to encourage transparency and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the Release Train Engineer on SAFe facilitation and execution.

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work directly with technical and product teams.
  • Experience managing delivery efforts of $250,000 or more.
  • Knowledge of modern Agile frameworks and lean principles.
  • Proficient with Agile project management software such as Azure DevOps or Jira.
  • An understanding of the business of software (the software development lifecycle, product focused development, etc...)
  • 5+ years of related experience in software development, with 1+ years direct Agile Scrum or Kanban experience.
  • Knowledge of Insurance Industry a plus.
  • CSM, SSM or PSM certification preferred.

Salary range: $104,000 - $150,000. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include the candidate's qualifications and experience.
