Position Summary:

The Branch Manager leads the branch staff to achieve the strategic initiatives set forth for the branch by the Credit Union. The position is responsible for recognizing areas of strength and leverage them, in addition to recognizing areas development and improving them as the branch strives to achieve its goals. The Branch Manager is responsible for the development, training, coaching, mentoring and performance of the branch staff. The position is responsible for growing and developing the branch, in addition to ensuring compliance with Credit Union policies, procedures and practices. The branch manager leads the operations of the branch including sales, lending, new accounts, member service and cash operations.

Work Location:

The Branch Manager will support three branches within the Chicago area. Travel requirements will be discussed throughout the interview process. The branch locations include:

  • Clark Street Branch: 1550 N. Clark St.
  • North Avenue Branch: 2234 W. North Ave.
  • Division Street Branch: 101 W. Division St.

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.

Schedule:

This position requires the ability to work during the branch hours of operation, including rotating Saturdays. Managers work every other Saturday and receive a consistent day off during the week to offset their hours. Additional time may be required to fulfill responsibilities. This position is also required to represent the Credit Union in the community at events and volunteer functions outside of branch hours.

    • Monday - Thursday 8:45am-5:45pm
    • Friday 8:00am-6:15pm
    • Rotating Saturdays 8:45am-1:15pm

Pay & Benefits:

    • $77,000-$104,000+ dependent on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have advanced knowledge of duties and responsibilities performed as a Member Service Representative; utilize approval limits and privileges appropriately
  • Take on risk and utilize lending limits commensurate with level while actively mentoring the same in others
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Credit Union's strategic initiatives and align the branch to achieve those initiatives
  • Prepare future Management Associates to take on management roles within the Credit Union, and develop staff members to senior levels
  • Use judgment and decision making skills to protect the members and the Credit Union, and teach others to do the same
  • Develop, implement and communicate strategic direction and goals for the branch which support the overall strategic direction and goals of the Credit Union
  • Monitor, analyze and create branch metrics to determine branch performance toward strategic initiatives
  • Assume responsibility for branch performance, branch profitability and branch staff performance
  • Offer excellent service to current and potential members who visit the branch and develop the same in others
  • Build relationships with members by educating them about products and services they could benefit from, and mentor and train others to do the same
  • Actively participate in branch and Credit Union incentives, mentor and train others to do the same
  • Be a role model by demonstrating initiative, responsibility, integrity, professionalism and dependability
  • Take initiative within the branch to support the staff and the branch to accomplish their goals
  • Handle complex situations with confidence, knowledge and creativity
  • Use critical thinking skills to solve problems and improve processes, work efficiently and use time effectively
  • Seek training opportunities to develop or enhance knowledge
  • Accept ownership of, and remain current on, all new and existing information, processes and software
  • Maintain active passwords for software systems
  • Maintain regular communication with VP of Branch Operations and the AVP of Branch Operations to share observations of strengths and areas for development within the branch and other situations as they arise
  • Create branch promotions, train and support staff for the promotions, monitor, analyze results and hold staff accountable for performance
  • Support Credit Union promotions by providing training, support, monitoring, analyzing results and holding staff accountable for performance
  • Assess branch training needs, provide training or have training provided, evaluate employees' skills post-trainings to ensure goals were achieved and make modifications as necessary
  • Ensure development and motivation of branch staff to maximize their contribution to the Credit Union and ensure their quality of work
  • Oversee hiring, evaluation, disciplinary actions, recognition and review writing for employees
  • Actively work with employees in the disciplinary process to improve their work performance, while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
  • Actively communicate with staff for their development, including regularly providing feedback and direction
  • Recommend product and process improvements improve service to the members; protect the Credit Union's assets and increase productivity and operational efficiencies
  • Actively participate on committees representing branch operations and the membership, asking questions and providing input
  • Maintain branch compliance with Federal and State laws and regulation
  • Respond to, and take corrective action on, all internal and external audit findings
  • Lead the branch through difficult situations such as robbery or other emergency
  • Monitor staffing levels, scheduling and branch workflow to ensure adequate coverage to provide superior service and accomplish operational duties
  • Take on a leadership role within the Credit Union by participating and contributing as a member of the Credit Union's management team including representing the Credit Union in the community and in a volunteer capacity
  • Promote positive working relationships while working with other departments to provide superior service and consistency in processes for the membership and staff
  • Stay current on financial industry topics with ongoing education through readings, trainings, conferences, etc.
  • Work with a high level of independence
  • Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the learning and talent development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Strong verbal, quantitative and interpersonal skills to handle complex management situations and communicate with leaders within the community
  • Ability to communicate with members and staff in a positive, friendly, patient and professional manner using strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills along with the ability to present information effectively to the staff and membership
  • Ability to garner performance from branch staff
  • Ability to train others
  • Ability to define and achieve strategic direction through strong coaching and sales management skills
  • Strong knowledge of the Credit Union's products and services including laws, regulations, policies and procedures as well as a thorough knowledge of the in-house computer systems
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze complex problems and do necessary research using source documents and computer systems to arrive at an appropriate solution
  • Ability to use independent judgment, discretion and take initiative
  • Knowledge of credit reports, information gathering for underwriting decisions and a proven history of strong lending decisions
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Detail orientation, emphasis on accuracy, and ability to multi-task
  • Critical thinking skills handle complex situations
  • Leadership skills to lead branch to achieve Credit Union directives and to develop staff to their fullest potential
  • Reliability and dependability
  • Four or more years of financial or retail industry experience preferred
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience required
