Essential Duties:

  • Mission & Culture: All members of the CW team are required to uphold the mission and values and conduct themselves with highest level of professionalism.
  • Proposal Development and Collaboration: Coordinate with various departments to draft complete technical and management proposals for diverse funding opportunities. Craft grant and technical proposal responses for Federal, State, foundation, commercial, and local entities, ensuring alignment with RFP guidelines. Conduct interviews with program managers and technical experts to develop compelling proposal narratives.
  • Generate proposal features, benefits, graphics, and proof points to enhance effectiveness.
  • Content Creation and Editing: Write, edit, and refine technical sections, demonstrating attention to detail and clarity of content. Develop standardized technical sections across all RFPs, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Research and Strategy Development: Perform independent research and competitor analysis to inform proposal development strategies. Develop key themes and success factors based on input from executive and senior leadership.
  • Issue Resolution and Support: Facilitate resolution of issues among team members through effective communication and collaboration. Support quality improvement initiatives and contribute to special projects as assigned.
  • Submission Process: Submit proposal drafts to the Proposal Manager for review and implement edits as necessary to meet RFP requirements.
  • Flexibility and Additional Duties: Fulfill additional duties as required to support the organization's mission and objectives.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field (Preferred)
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in technical proposal writing, including federal, state, and foundation/private grant proposals
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and Salesforce preferred

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Proficiency in MS Office Tools: Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, for efficient document creation and collaboration.

Adobe Acrobat Pro XI: Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI for PDF document creation and editing.

Salesforce Experience: Experience with Salesforce is preferred for managing proposal-related data and interactions.

Effective Communication: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear, persuasive, and collaborative proposal development.

Creativity and Attention to Detail: Creative and detail-oriented mindset for developing compelling proposal content with accuracy and precision.

Team Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Proficient in collaborating with teams to produce high-quality proposals and adept at problem-solving to address challenges encountered during development.

Time Management and Initiative: Excellent time management abilities for handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines, coupled with a proactive initiative in advancing proposal development.

Verbal and Written Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effectively conveying proposal content and engaging with stakeholders.

Physical & Environmental Demands

  • Sitting and Mobility: The Proposal Writer I primarily works at a desk or workstation, involving prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. This sedentary work may lead to challenges such as eye strain or back pain. Implementing ergonomic practices, like proper workstation setup and taking periodic breaks, is crucial to mitigate these risks. The office environment may vary in terms of noise, temperature, and lighting.
  • Visual and Auditory Abilities: The role requires good vision for reading and analyzing documents, as well as the ability to hear and comprehend conversations and presentations.
  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using office equipment, including computers, keyboards, and telephones, is necessary for performing job tasks effectively.
  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required for meetings or visits to different sites, involving air or ground transportation. This may expose the Proposal Writer I to different environments and physical demands such as carrying luggage or navigating airports.
  • Meetings and Presentations: Participation in meetings, both internal and external, may involve prolonged periods of sitting and active engagement. Effective communication skills and good posture are essential for these activities.
  • Stress and Workload: While not physical demands, the role entails substantial responsibilities and potential stress from managing deadlines and balancing priorities. Maintaining self-care practices and a healthy work-life balance is important for overall well-being.

Background Screening

As part of CW's commitment to maintaining a safe and secure work environment, the Director of Business Development and Research position will undergo comprehensive background screening. This includes a security verification to confirm the security clearance level and ensuring the clearance is still active and valid. An employment verification to ensure the accuracy of work experience, education verification to confirm educational qualifications, and professional license and credential verification, if applicable. A criminal background check will be conducted to identify any past criminal convictions or ongoing legal issues. A credit check may also be performed to assess financial responsibility. Reference checks will be conducted to gather insights into the candidate's work ethic and performance. Regulatory and compliance checks may be conducted to ensure the candidate has not been involved in any violations or issues that could pose risks to the organization. All background checks will be conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to privacy guidelines.
