POSITION TITLE: Postdoctoral Associate

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Immunology and Microbiology Department in the Schief and Schiffner labs, focusing on rational immunogen design. The multi-disciplinary project combines computational protein design, including emerging deep learning-based algorithms, with experimental in vitro high-throughput screening methods to develop next-generation immunogens. Immunogens will be validated and iteratively refined based on in vivo immunization data collected in close collaboration with several national and international partners. The person filling this position is expected to play an important intellectual, technical, and scientific role in projects. The candidate will also assist with the preparation of grant applications and manuscripts and contribute to additional projects in the lab.

Successful candidates will be talented, highly motivated, creative individuals, able to work semi-independently, and have a strong background in either computational protein design, immunology, or protein biochemistry with an emphasis on immunology. Include CV with three references.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, immunology, molecular biology, or a related discipline is required. Candidates who are about to defend their thesis are welcome to apply.
  • Strong background in computational protein design, virology, molecular biology, and immunology is preferred.
  • Significant expertise in protein biochemistry, including recombinant protein expression, purification and characterization is a plus.
  • Expertise in molecular modeling, including ROSETTA, is a plus.
  • Knowledge or experience in analysis of in vivo experiments is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic environment.

COMPENSATION: Postdoctoral Associates will be hired following the National Institute of Health and California's exempt salary guidelines, which provide for a starting range of $68,000- $73,230. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
