Job Description

Electrician position is responsible for work of complex difficulty in operation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of facility electrical systems that include primary (high voltage) and secondary circuits, normal and emergency power distribution, UPS, diesel generator systems, lighting systems, fire protection systems, security systems, and audio-visual systems. Assists in the repair of building automation systems, HVAC systems, process equipment systems, building maintenance, high pressure & low-pressure steam boilers, water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, hot & cold-water systems, pumping systems, steam systems, steam traps, PRV stations, water treatment, animal drinking water & domestic water systems, and other tasks as they apply to demands of the department. Electrician I - Entry level technician. Years of experience < 5 years Electrician II - Perform work with minimum supervision in its field and lead small teams in projects. Years of experience 5-10 years Electrician III - Perform work with greater degree of self-sufficiency and independence. Be a mentor, provide guidance to train lower-level technicians, and manage projects with minimal guidance. All positions report to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.

Educational Requirements

High School Degree Required.

Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college in electrical or electrical engineering technology, or related field preferred.

Certifications

Trade licenses & certifications will be held in high regard.

Experience Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Operates, maintains, installs, repairs, replaces, troubleshoots, test and responds to routine and emergency service calls as they relate to Electrical Systems and its components (primary and secondary circuits, normal and emergency power distribution, UPS, diesel generator systems, lighting systems, fire protection systems, security systems, and audio-visual systems). Perform Preventive Maintenance inspections and services on Electrical Systems according to established schedule and provide input for upgrade or modification.
  • Assists in the design, installation, and commissioning of new and modification of existing Electrical Systems and its components.
  • Assists with maintenance and operation of Building Automation System, Fire Protection Systems, Security Systems, HVAC Systems, Lighting, Process Equipment Systems (autoclaves, tunnel washers, bottle washers, and rack washers), Building Maintenance, Utility Plant Systems (high pressure & low pressure steam boilers, water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, hot & cold water systems, pumping systems, steam systems, steam traps, PRV stations, water treatment, animal drinking water & domestic water systems) and other tasks as they apply to demands of the department. Monitors and responds to local alarm systems on HVAC, Fire and Security systems. Acts as primary facility security, maintenance and operations response personnel as needed. Provides immediate diagnosis and remedy to plant issues and/or contacts formal on-call maintenance personnel and/or contractors for assistance. Performs monitoring and operations of facility and utility plant operations at maximum efficiency and reliability while meeting all regulatory requirements.
  • Provides training and mentoring to others in the operation and repair of Electrical Systems and its components. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Provides general clean up, housekeeping, and maintenance of machinery & electrical spaces.
  • Utilizes CMMS to track and preventive and corrective maintenance tasks and create work orders. Provide detailed written and oral reports / presentation on equipment utilization, round sheets, records, and daily pass down logs for internal use along with state and federal agencies. Develops new and improves existing SOPs to effectively document processes and procedures. Percentage of time 10%. May require rotating on-call status and occasional shift work including nights, holidays, and weekend. Requires ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as required. May require occasional travel for reasons such as training or project support. Other miscellaneous duties may be required to be performed based on needs of the day.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of electrical systems including planning additions or modifications.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operations, control drawings and control loops.
  • Understanding of Electrical Systems, Fire Protection Systems, Security Systems, Lighting, and Building Maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical equipment & components, programmable Building Automation Controls, and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to prepare engineering documents, specifications, and cost estimates for projects.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Analytical ability for problem solving and to communicate effectively with others in writing and verbally.
  • Ability and willingness to rapidly learn new technical skills and apply them in the maintenance and operation of the facility. Analytical ability for problem solving and to communicate effectively with others in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to bend, squat or crouch, crawl, kneel, stoop, stretch and stand and/or work in cramped areas for prolonged periods of times while repairing equipment both at floor level, overhead, and or/in confined space areas.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders (both inclined and vertical).
  • Ability to enter manholes, vaults, and other classified and unclassified confined spaces. A respirator and/or specialized personal protective equipment may be required to access certain confined spaces.
  • Certification in confined space entry or ability to qualify within 6 months.
  • With or without assistance, must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and job-related materials and/or equipment.

Pay Range (Hourly Rate): $30.33-$46.56 per hour
